Founded by physician leaders during a time of crisis, Medical Mutual has never strayed from its original mission of protecting our profession with stable, affordable professional liability coverage.

Physician leaders of the North Carolina Medical Society formed Medical Mutual in 1975 in response to the escalating medical liability crisis. Today, Medical Mutual has more than 8,600 physician members in North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. We have achieved this growth while maintaining the lowest operating costs in the industry, an "A" Excellent rating from A.M. Best, and the exclusive endorsement of the North Carolina Medical Society. We are also the only professional liability carrier to have operated continuously in North Carolina for more than thirty years.
