Physician leaders of the North Carolina Medical Society formed Medical Mutual in 1975 in response to the escalating medical liability crisis. Today Medical Mutual has more than 8,600 physician members and is still the only professional liability carrier endorsed by the North Carolina Medical Society. Medical Mutual is owned by its physician policyholders and governed by a physician Board of Directors. Our team of professionals is dedicated to offering innovative solutions to protect physicians and their practices, from unrivaled defense of claims to comprehensive risk management services.

Medical Security, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medical Mutual, is the only professional liability company founded and operated by North Carolina dentists. Medical Security was formed in partnership with the North Carolina Dental Society in 1988. Five practicing North Carolina dentists serve on Medical Security’s Board of Directors and provide invaluable leadership and advice on the needs of our dentist members. As the leader in protecting dentists and their practices, Medical Security remains the only carrier endorsed by the NCDS.

MMIC Agency, LLC is the exclusive marketer of the North Carolina Medical Society Employee Benefit Plan. The NCMS Plan is the only statewide health benefits plan designed specifically for North Carolina physicians. The NCMS Plan offers a unique combination of health and dental programs tailored to meet the needs of medical practices and their employees.
